Senior Accountant
Job Purpose
As a Senior Accountant, the primary responsibility for this role is to oversee and manage the financial operations for the Americas, Asia and Maritime business units, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with both internal policies and regulatory requirements. This position plays a key role in financial reporting, and analysis, providing strategic insights that drive business decisions. Additionally, this position collaborates with cross-functional teams to optimize financial processes, support audits, and contribute to the company's financial health and long-term growth objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, and entering transactions.
- Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
- Reviews and maintains general ledger accounts and prepares reconciling entries as needed.
- Summarizes financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other documents as requested.
- Works with Central Finance to ensure compliance with state and federal government requirements.
- Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
- Completes month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting.
- Establishes and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles.
- Makes recommendations to improve systems and procedures and initiates corrective actions.
- Monitors and analyzes accounting data.
- Assist in the annual budget preparation, monthly forecasting and the comparison of actuals to budget/forecast.
- All other duties or responsibilities as reasonably assigned.
Qualifications
- Certified or chartered accountant designation preferred (CA, CGA, CMA).
- Bachelor's degree or College diploma in Accounting or Business Administration.
- At least five years of progressive accounting experience.
- High attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Resilient and adaptable to change and able to improvise and work in a high pressure and fast paced environment.
- Strong collaborative and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently handle multiple, simultaneous and detailed tasks.
- Experience working cross-culturally and in a multi-national organization.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to present to leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills.
- Proven ability to mentor junior accounting staff.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Working conditions
This position typically operates in a professional office environment. Standard office hours are 8am to 5pm, however, work outside of regular office hours and occasional travel may be required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and software.
Physical requirements
- The ability to sit for extended periods of time at a desk while working on a computer or reviewing documents.
- The ability to use hands to handle and control a keyboard and mouse.
- The ability to understand and communicate clearly with others through speaking, listening, or writing.
- The ability to move around the office to attend meetings or retrieve documents.
